Greetings from the College of Business!
So many interesting things have happened
at the College of Business during the
past couple of months that it was
difficult to choose just a few to
highlight in our newsletter. Among these
activities:
- Estonia's head of state,
President Toomas Ilves, shared
lessons on international commerce
with students, faculty, and other
guests in a conversation about how
the small Baltic country uses
technology and the Internet to
develop its economy.
- Microsoft partnered with us in
March, aiming to encourage high
school girls to pursue careers in
technology with DigiGirlz, a program
to introduce girls to successful
women from the IT field (including
one of our own grads who now works
for the software giant).
- Wal-Mart gave small business
owners the chance to learn about
doing business with the popular
retail company, providing tips on
how to get products on the Wal-Mart
shelves.
- Business misconduct and how to
handle it got much-needed attention
when two world-renowned researchers,
an expert auditor, and an attorney
talked about backdating, corporate
compensation, misbehaving managers
and the legal system during the
second in a series of corporate
governance seminars.
Details can be found inside this
newsletter, along with a spotlight on
Adam King, one of three 4.0 business
students named King O'Neal scholars
during our June commencement. With our
alumni updates you can discover where
some of our business grads have taken
their careers, too.

President of Estonia Gives Lesson on
Economics |
| |
USF
business students usually learn about
economics from professors or corporate
leaders, but, on April 21, they were
privileged to be educated by an
international head of state - Toomas
Hendrik Ilves, President of the Republic
of Estonia. The leader of the small
Baltic nation, which achieved
independence from the former Soviet
Union in 1991, spoke about how the young
nation's economy has been bolstered by
the Internet and technology. The
students, mostly international business
majors, were part of the capacity crowd
in the auditorium at USF's College of
Business that also included members of
the Central Florida Estonian community
and USF faculty and staff.
