Greetings
from the College of Business! |
I often see large groups of students and parents touring the campus
for USF's orientation sessions. They have anticipation,
excitement, and a hint of nervousness written on their faces.
We're experiencing many of these feelings as we launch several new
programs this fall, a few of which are spotlighted in this
newsletter. We are eager to see them come to life and are a bit
nervous until the last seat (or bed, as in the case of the Bulls
Business Community) is taken.

We are a bit anxious about potential budget cuts our university and
college face this year, too. While we don't yet know what the final
amount will be, we are carefully assessing what we do so that we
protect our programs' integrity and continue to provide the best
educational experience for our students. Now, more than ever, we
need the financial support of our alumni and friends to continue on
the path of taking our college to the next level.
One of the programs that will help get us to that level involves an
alliance with the Tampa Bay Performing Arts Center to bring Improv
Night to the business school. If you're wondering what Improv has to
do with educating business students, be sure to check out the Bulls
Business Community story in this newsletter.
I also encourage you to also take a look at the article about a
hands-on learning project our MBA students did for the Tampa Bay
Devil Rays. When folks like Matt Silverman, Rays president, says the
quality of our students' work "blew us away," we know our students
represented us well.
Finally, Bob Keith, long-time director of the School of Accountancy,
retires this summer. He has worked closely with incoming director
Stephanie Bryant, whose energy and drive is as impressive as her
resume. I am confident she will help us build an even stronger
national reputation. She has already begun to reach out to area
industry leaders, many of them USF alumni who join me in wishing Bob
well. He is an educator, mentor, and friend; be sure to learn more
about the newly-established Robert M. Keith Endowed Teaching
Professorship.
