A charter faculty
member at the University of South Florida College of Business,
Brunhild taught economics and finance at USF for 35 years until he
retired in 1995. In fact, according to Golda Brunhild, his
first wife, his passion was evident to everyone and he was given the
title of professor emeritus when he retired.

Dr. Brunhild’s
second wife, Sunnie Brunhild knew of his passion for teaching and,
like Golda Brunhild, said he had a genuine affection for USF. After
his death, the two women became good friends.

Both Golda and
Sunnie Brunhild visited the College recently and, to ensure that
Gordon Brunhild’s love for USF and wishes for a strong economics
program were honored, they came together to establish an endowed
Academic Enrichment Fund for the Economics department. The fund, to
be used at the discretion of the chair of the economics department,
will primarily be used for faculty salaries and research support.
Their gifts, totaling $125,000, are eligible for a matching
program from the State of Florida.
"He loved teaching,
and he loved teaching economics," said Golda Brunhild recently, when
both women visited with economics department chair Kwabena
Gyimah-Brempong.
“We both know how
much he loved USF, and we are both pleased to be able to do this in
his honor,” said Sunnie Brunhild.
“What impresses me
most,” said Jon Jones, assistant director of development for the
College of Business, “is that these two women both came together to
honor the memory of one of our charter faculty members. It is an
incredibly generous thing to do, a way to recognize Dr. Brunhild’s
contributions to the university over the years.” |
