Paul Solomon
Professor

Professor Solomon has been with the University of South Florida for 19 years, five as Chairman of the Department of Marketing with the remainder serving as Professor of Marketing.  Prior to coming to USF Dr. Solomon served as Associate Dean of Graduate Studies at the University of Texas at Arlington.  He holds a Ph. D. from Arizona State University, and a Bachelor’s and M.B.A. from the University of Denver.

Dr. Solomon has published extensively in the area of promotion and services marketing.  His articles have appeared in the Journal of Marketing, Journal of Marketing Research, Journal of Advertising, Journal of Advertising Research, Journal of Accountancy, Journal of Retailing, Journal of Business, Journal of Travel Research, Journal of Nonprofit & Public Sector Marketing, and other publications.  He has served as associate editor of the Marketing Educator.

Dr. Solomon has developed and conducted focus group research, market surveys, and strategic planning processes for a wide variety of firms in the health care field, entertainment industry, packaged goods, home building, and real estate.  His clients include Hill and Knowlton Public Relations, Better Health Network, BayCare Hospital System, Orthopaedic Associates of Port Huron, Johnson and Johnson, Pilgrim Industries, Anderson-Clayton Foods, Cigna, Florida Health Access Corp., AAA of the South, Tampa Ophthalmic Group, Shriners, Shimberg-Cross Inc., Jim Walter Homes, Jewel-Osco, Moffitt Cancer Center and Research Institute, Ybor City Development Corp., Port of Tampa, Jim Walter International Corporation, Florida Community Cancer Centers, Florida Blood Services, Florida Electric Supply Co. (FIFE), London International Corporation, Sears, Parke-Davis, Holland & Knight LLP, Val-Pak, Entergy and others.

Dr. Solomon has done expert witness work on a variety of legal and marketing issues including anti-trust (United States Department of Justice), direct mail, personal selling sales tactics, real estate, trade mark infringement, credit card, and others. 

Dr. Solomon served as director of research for a mid-sized advertising agency for 8 years.  He also owned and operated a successful small business firm (a marketing research company- Decision Support Systems) in the Dallas area.

His teaching credentials include several awards for outstanding teaching.  At University of South Florida he has received the Outstanding Graduate Teaching Award twelve times (1987, 1992, 1993, 1994, 1995, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003).  In addition, he was given a teaching excellence award by the Executive MBA Program at Tulane University.  While at the University of Texas at Arlington (1986) he received the Amoco Foundation Award as the most “Outstanding” teacher at the University.  In 1995 and again in 1998 he earned a Teaching Incentive Program (TIP) awarded by the State of Florida for excellence in teaching.
