James Hensel
Associate Professor
Dr. Hensel was appointed to the marketing faculty at the University of South Florida in 1977. Prior to that time, he was Senior Consultant at Management Horizons, a Division of Price Waterhouse. From 1977 to 1986, Dr. Hensel continued to serve in the capacity of Associated Senior Consultant with major project responsibility on an assignment basis. Professor Hensel has also served on the faculties of Virginia Commonwealth University and Arizona State University.
Dr. Hensel is the coauthor of two books in marketing and has published articles in numerous academic and trade publications, including the Journal of Retailing and Journal of Advertising Research. He also has made academic presentations, served as a discussant, and published academic papers at various American Marketing Association conferences.
Professor Hensel has taught service quality and marketing strategy in the University of South Florida’s Executive MBA for Physicians program since its inception in 1992. This program is national in scope and annually draws 40-50 physicians representing private and group practices, and other health care organizations. Additionally, Dr. Hensel has presented and had several papers published in academic publications in the areas of managing patient perceptions, medical service quality delivery, and hospital marketing to physicians.
Professor Hensel frequently speaks to corporate, industry, and trade association groups. He has designed and taught management development courses for such corporations and Industry groups as the GTE Corporation, Goodyear, Robert Shaw Controls, Honeywell, the National Association of Hosiery Manufacturers and numerous management Horizons’ clients. He currently is a co-instructor in the marketing “Boot Camp” executive education seminar sponsored by the University of South Florida.
He has won several awards for teaching. At USF he has received the Outstanding Professor Award three times for his work in the MBA program. He was also given a teaching excellence award by the Executive MBA program at USF. While at Virginia Commonwealth University he was selected as Honored faculty member in the marketing department.
Dr. Hensel holds a Ph.D. from the Ohio State University, an MBA from Miami University, and B.A. from Ohio Northern University.
